Restricted Mode for VPNs

What is Restricted Mode?

When you are using a VPN (or non-residential ISPs) that has been used for abuse on our site in the past, your experience on the site will be degraded.

These include -

  • Rare pokemon may appear less often.
  • Spawn events may not work.
  • You may not be able to catch pokemon with three stats.
  • You may not be able to train high exp pokemon.
  • You may encounter a lot more captchas.
  • Some site pages/features may be disabled for you.
  • Trading may be disabled.

Restrictions may be added/removed depending on future abuse patterns.

Are VPNs not allowed?

We only add VPNs, that have been used for abuse in the past, to the Restricted Mode list.
There are some others, where the abuse has been on a larger scale that are completely blocked from accessing the site.
Using any VPN that is not yet on these lists will not put you in Restricted Mode.

What's considered abuse here?

Those violating game rules and terms of service while using VPNs to hide their identity/related accounts. It's also common for botnets in the same IP ranges to be invovled in DDoS attacks against us.

Is there a list of allowed VPNs?

No. The blocks are not based on VPN providers, but on the IP ranges/service providers of the IPs involved in the abuse or attacks.

I pay for a static IP. Can I be whitelisted?

If you are a Patron with a static IP that is ending up in Restricted Mode, you can contact us via Patreon to whitelist your address.
